Issaki Hoto Festival
石崎奉燈祭
August 1 (1st Saturday of August)
In the fishing district of Issaki beside Wakura Onsen, six enormous "hoto" lantern floats — up to 15 meters tall and weighing two tons — are shouldered by about 100 men each and paraded through lanes barely wider than the floats themselves. The chanting, the swaying lanterns, and the sheer physicality make this the most intense festival in Noto. Cancelled after the 2024 earthquake devastated the district, the festival returned in 2025 and is now a symbol of the region's recovery.
