Koda Fire Festival (Notojima)
能登島向田の火祭
Around the last Saturday of July
On Notojima Island, the Koda Fire Festival climaxes past 9pm when men circle a 30-meter grand torch with burning hand torches and hurl them upward until it ignites into a massive column of flame. When the torch falls, its direction is read as an omen for the fishing and farming year. Stand upwind — sparks fly far.
