About this site
Kanazawa Tea Ceremony Guide is an independently run guide to the places in Kanazawa where you can experience the tea ceremony, or simply sit down to a bowl of matcha. We want the tea culture the Kaga domain cultivated to be reachable within a single day of your trip.
What we care about
- We separate “full ceremony” from “served tea”. Whisking your own bowl and being served one are different things at different prices, yet both get called a “tea ceremony experience”. We never blur the two.
- We do not assert schools of tea. Kaga is associated with Urasenke, but almost no venue states its school officially. We do not write what we cannot confirm.
- We flag the practical barriers. Whether ryurei (table-and-chair) seating is available, and whether English is available — the things that trip people up on arrival.
Who runs this
This site is run by an individual living in Kanazawa, Ishikawa. All information is checked against official sources. Prices and schedules can change, so please confirm with each venue before you go.
