Horyu Tanabata Kiriko Festival
宝立七夕キリコまつり
August 1, kiriko procession from 17:30, fireworks from 20:00
At Mitsuke Beach in Suzu City, the climax comes around 8pm when more than a hundred bearers carry each giant kiriko float into the surf, wading around a blazing torch set offshore while fireworks light the sky. The Horyu district suffered severe earthquake and tsunami damage in 2024; check the current status before visiting.
